Get Rid of Radon: Your Health Depends on it!
Twenty-five years ago, we had no idea that a radioactive gas could creep into our homes and compromise our health. Radon is invisible, odorless and tasteless, and it is the second most common cause of lung cancer deaths.
Now that we know about the dangers of radon gas, we have options for removing it from our homes.
What is it and how does it get into our lungs?
Radon is natural: it is released as rocks and soil decay--which happens all the time, so radon is continuously present in soil and enters our homes through the foundations, crawl spaces and openings around pipes, cracks, and wires. Since soil and rock decay is continuous and releases radon as part of the natural process, it is recommended to test radon levels in all buildings at least once every two years. Each time we turn on heat or air conditioning, ground level radon gas is drawn in and circulates in the air we breathe. Current technology can't get rid of radon entirely, but it does allow us to reduce radon gas to safe levels.
